Why See A Psychologist?

Image

Australian statistics show that at least one in four people experience a mental health condition at some point in their adult life1. Beyond this, every single person on the planet experiences challenges over the course of their life – that is part of being human. Working with a registered psychologist can help you to develop the knowledge, insights, skills and confidence to move through these challenges with a focus on resilience, growth and healing.

Psychologists are experts in understanding human behaviour and experience. In addition to being able to provide evidence-based therapy, psychologists can also work with people in a coaching capacity to help them achieve their life and health goals. This means that even if there isn’t a mental health condition or other significant issue, psychologists can help people thrive, live meaningful lives, and achieve their goals more effectively.

Psychologists are registered health practitioners with strict standards and guidelines regarding their practice.

What To Expect

Lauren will start by gaining a holistic understanding of you as a person, your situation, your history, and your goals.

She may try to gain an understanding of your support network and, relationships, sleeping habits, eating habits, exercise habits, mental health history, and other important factors for you and your situation.

Lauren will share with you what her understanding of your challenges are and provide you with any information that could help you to understand your specific situation better.

She will then work collaboratively with you to identify strategies for coping with the difficult situations, feelings or thoughts that are challenging for you.

This "getting to know you" period generally takes 1-2 sessions and is an opportunity for you to get to know Lauren’s approach and decide if you are comfortable to continue with treatment, and willing to commit to any changes she suggests that may help you reach your goals.

Lauren has a warm, compassionate and friendly approach and she will help you to feel safe and supported throughout this process. She will then work with you to decide on a plan for your sessions, ensuring you feel comfortable and empowered to achieve your counselling and coaching goals.
